Oklahoma · 49 O.S. §§201–214Oklahoma remote online notarization: where the signer can be, identity checks and the 10-year recording

A notary physically in Oklahoma who is authorized for remote online notarization may notarize by communication technology for a signer in Oklahoma, elsewhere in the United States, or outside the U.S. if the record involves property in the United States or relates to a U.S. matter and the notary doesn't know the act is prohibited where the signer is (49 O.S. §205). The notary verifies identity by personal knowledge; by remote presentation of a photo ID plus credential analysis and identity proofing; or by a credible witness's oath (§208(B)). The notary keeps a tamper-evident electronic journal and an audio-visual recording of each act, retained for at least ten years (§206). A remote online notarization satisfies any Oklahoma requirement to appear before the notary (§211), and a notary's failure to meet a duty doesn't by itself invalidate the act (§212).

  • For a signer abroad, confirm the document involves the U.S. property being sold.
  • Schedule the remote session as a task with the signer's ID ready.
