Montana · Property taxMontana property tax due dates: November 30, May 31 and the monthly option
Montana property taxes are paid in two halves: one-half is payable on or before 5 p.m. on November 30 of each year, or within 30 days after the tax notice is postmarked if that is later, and the other half on or before 5 p.m. on May 31. A taxpayer enrolled in the alternative payment schedule for primary residences pays one-seventh of the taxes on the last day of each month from November 30 through May 31, as long as the full amount is paid by May 31. If a half isn't paid on time, the amount is delinquent and draws interest of 5/6 of 1% a month from the delinquency until paid, plus a 2% penalty (MCA 15-16-102). Because the first half isn't due until November 30, a closing before then may come before any of the current year's tax has been paid.
